In this tradition, the plants are the teachers
In our maestros’ tradition, knowledge comes from a relationship with plant spirits. The mentor helps the student cultivate that relationship through dieta and icaros, offering guidance throughout the learning.
This is the traditional spiritual understanding that shapes the apprenticeship. It asks for patience, attention and respect for the individual learning process. Your own experiences may differ from another student’s.
The maestro’s role: dieta, icaros and personal guidance
Your mentors help explain the discipline of the dieta and work through icaros to support your relationship with the plants. You have the opportunity to ask questions about what you experience and how the maestros understand this path.
Before you commit, agree which named maestros will guide you, how you will communicate and the support available during your stay. Read about Diomar, Antonio’s lineage and teaching and the full team.
Ayahuasca and Piñón Blanco dieta
The apprenticeship brings together Ayahuasca and a dieta with Piñón Blanco. In our maestros’ account, Piñón Blanco is associated with luminous wisdom and a gentle spiritual presence. Dieta is a sustained practice of attention, discipline and relationship, rather than simply a menu of foods.
Explore Piñón Blanco dieta and the place of dieta and icaros in Shipibo tradition. Piñón Blanco is different from the Piñón Negro cleansing ceremony described in our short retreat itineraries. Discuss any additional plant practices individually.
Three months, with a choice of study format
You can complete the three months in one continuous stay or return for three separate one-month periods. If you plan to divide the course, agree your dates, the intervals between visits and how to prepare for each return with the team.
The programme is discussed individually. Your maestros and the team will explain the plant practices, ceremony frequency, time for rest and personal guidance agreed for your stay.
Who is this apprenticeship for?
It is for people seeking a deeper encounter with how Shipibo shamans understand and experience plant learning, and who can make time for a sustained dieta. You can begin with questions and a wish to understand the tradition more closely.
Completing three months does not automatically make someone a shaman or qualify them to lead ceremonies for others. Discuss your intentions honestly with the maestros and approach the learning without a guaranteed spiritual outcome.
Tuition and financial circumstances
Tuition is US$6,000 per person for each month. The base total for three months is US$18,000 per person. The same monthly fee applies whether you attend continuously or in three separate visits.
If you have financial difficulties, explain your circumstances to customer service and ask to apply for a tuition reduction. Each request is discussed individually; a reduction is not automatic. Obtain written confirmation of any approved adjustment and payment terms.
Your consultation sets out the programme, reception arrangements, included services and any additional costs. Ask for a complete written plan before making travel or payment commitments.
How to begin
- Share your intention and whether you prefer a continuous stay or three visits.
- Complete the private health questionnaire and discuss preparation. Shaman review is not a physician’s medical assessment.
- Speak with the team about your mentors, dates, communication, programme and tuition.
- Confirm the written arrangements, including payment, cancellation and any approved tuition reduction.
